Big Things Are Coming As The NBA Opens

Sunday, December 25, 2011 |

The NBA opened the 2011-2012 season in the mecca of basketball - Madison Square Garden, which saw the hometown New York Knicks pitted against the Boston Celtics.

Last time the Knicks and Celtics played in Madison Square Garden, Paul Pierce gave the Celtics the win with the go-ahead jumper.  This time around, Pierce will not be playing because of injury, and the Knicks have loaded up their frontline with the addition of Tyson Chandler from free-agency.

The game started in the Knicks favor, at one time leading by 17 points, but the battled-tested Celtics came back to end the 3rd quarter leading by 8.  The Knicks came back in the 4th quarter to get away with the win.

If the opening game was any indication, the games between the two rivals is sure to be exciting.

Miami Heat Routs The Defending Champion

The 2nd game of the season was the rematch of last season finals.  Before the start of the game, the Mavericks raised their championship banner and received their rings.  During the ceremony, the Heat were gathered in another part of the building.  Probably, they did not want to watch the Mavs raise the banner at their expense.

Many predict that the Heat will win it all this season.  And the Heat looked the part by routing the defending champions.  At one point, they lead by 35 points midway through the 3rd quarter.  The Mavs were not the same time with the departure of some of their key players - Tyson Chandler and J.J Barea.  The Mavs probably need a few more games to come together - especially with their new additions Lamar Odom and Vince Carter.

Chicago Bulls Stun The LA Lakers

Derrick Rose made a crossover to get by Derek Fisher, drove through the middle of the lane and then put-up a high floater over the outstretched arms of Pau Gasol - Swish!.

The basket by Rose capped the rally by the Bulls to stun the Lakers for the win.  The Bulls were facing an 11-point deficit with 3:44 in the game to win it 88-87.

Chicago must have felt good after the win after breaking their 6-game road losing streak to the Lakers.  The Lakers meanwhile, although they lost the game, must be feeling satisfied with their performance after a questionable preseason.  The Bulls future is looking bright while the Lakers are full of questions.

Stay tuned as I update you on the latest news from the NBA.
